TOOLS USED:

Phillips Screwdriver

Electrician's Tool (stripper, cutter, crimper)

Drill with 1/2" hole bit

Needlenose Pliers

Electrical Tester (for testing 12V voltage and resistance)

Dremel rotary tool with cut-off wheel and cylinder-shaped grinding bit

PARTS USED:

1.  From Summit Racing:

VDO-301106D  Fuel Level Gauge

VDO-310105D  Water Temp Gauge

VDO-323900D  Water Temp Sender

VDO-332103D  Voltmeter

VDO-333160D  Tachometer

VDO-340012D  Speedometer Sender

VDO-350104D  Oil Pressure Gauge

VDO-360900D  Oil Pressure Sender

VDO-437155D  Speedometer

PRF-30302  Painless Wiring Gauge Wiring Harness w/ Electronic Speedo

The VDO Vision gauges were chosen because of their screw-on clamp style, which makes for incredibly easy and clean gauge mounting.  All of the above gauges are electric.  The small gauges are 2-1/16 and the tach and speedo are 4.  The speedo sender has the through drive for use with factory cruise control.  If you dont have or need cruise control, then sender #340011 is what you need (and its about $10 cheaper, too).  The VDO water temp and oil pressure gauges did not work with my factory sending units.  The VDO pressure and temp sending units must be used.  The VDO fuel level gauge does work with the factory GM sender.

2.  From RadioShack:

272-332  Red Snap-In 12VDC Lamp Assembly (pkg of 2)

272-335  Blue Snap-In 12VDC Lamp Assembly (pkg of 2)

272-337A  Green Snap-In 12VDC Lamp Assembly (pkg of 2)

When you toss your factory gauges, you will also be losing whatever warning lights and indicators were also a part of those assemblies, such as choke, high beam, seatbelt, 4WD, parking brake, and others.  Therefore, if you wish to have warning and indicator lights, you will need to install your own lights.  The factory bulbs and green lenses for the turn signals can be retained, but I opted to replace those weak units with direct light from the green radio shack lamps.  You may need more or fewer lamps than what I used.

3.  From Hardware Store:

9 ft 14 ga. red copper stranded wire

9 ft 14 ga. black copper stranded wire

9 ft 14 ga. white copper stranded wire

7 ft 3/8" black plastic corrugated wire loom stuff (can't think what it is called at the moment)

5/8 nylon wire clamps

Miscellaneous butt connectors, tap splices, etc.

16 gauge wire could be used, but my hardware store only carried the quality of wire that I needed in the bigger gauge.  The wire clamps are not needed unless the speedo cable is being retained.

DISCARDED FACTORY COMPONENTS:

All gauges, except for rear portion of speedometer assembly if factory cruise is to be kept

Printed Circuit

Clear plastic gauge cover

Black plastic gauge pod cover

All gauge pod bulbs and connectors, except for the gear indicator bulb if desired

Printed circuit harness connector

Speedo cable, unless needed for cruise control
